A goiter is an enlargement of the thyroid gland and can result from a variety of causes. It is more common in women and older adults.
Types of Goitre:
- Uniform (Diffuse Goiter)
- Lumpy (Nodular Goiter)
Some of the Common Causes:
- Solitary nodule
- Hashimoto’s disease, autoimmune disorder; common cause of underactive thyroid
- Multinodular goiter; several nodules develop in both sides of thyroid
- Thyroid cancer; less common than benign nodules
- Pregnancy; HCG hormone may cause enlargement
- Graves disease, autoimmune disorder; common cause of underactive thyroid
- Inflammation
- Iodine deficiency
Common Symptoms:
- Coughing
- Tight feeling in throat
- Swelling at base of neck
- Difficulty swallowing, breathing
List of Home Remedies:
Dandelion Leaves: Take handful of dandelion leaves and add some clarified butter. Heat them for couple of minutes then apply the mixture directly on the Goiter. Leave it on for about 15 minutes then wash it off.
Flaxseeds: Grind some flaxseeds add few drops of water to make a paste and apply to the affected area. Leave it on for about 20 minutes then wash it off. Flaxseeds are very affective treating goitre.
Barley Water: Drink at least one glass of barley water to alleviate the symptoms of Goiter. Barley has a numerous health benefits including this.
Cold Water Bath: Take a cold water bath 2 times a day. This is the best and one of the easy home remedy to treat goiter.
Pineapple: Eat and include the pineapples in your regular diet.
Sorrel Leaves: Take few sorrel leaves and add few drops of olive oil. Mix them to make a paste and apply the paste directly to the affected part of the skin. Leave it as it is for 10 to 15 minutes before washing it off.
Garlic: Chew about 3-4 garlic cloves daily in the morning.
Green Tea: Consume 2 – 3 cups of green tea daily to cure goiter. Green tea is also very affected in preventing recurrence.
Lemon Balm Tea: Consume 2 – 3 cups of Lemon balm tea daily to treat goiter completely. You can even drink a lemon balm infusion to ease stomach cramps due to stress.
Coconut Oil: Daily consumption of coconut oil is very beneficial so include it in your daily diet. Coconut Oil is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that supports the body’s immune system.
Bentonite Clay: Make bentonite clay paste by adding some water to it and simply apply this paste on the neck. Leave it as it is till it becomes dry before rinse it off.
Oak Bark: Make dried oak bark paste by applying some water to it and simply apply this paste on the neck. Leave it as it is overnight.
