Nose bleeds are a common problem and are common in children between 2 and 10 years old, or in adults older than 50. They are less frequent in teenagers and young adults. There are usually two main types of nose bleeds anterior nose bleed that occurs when the septum separating the two nasal chambers becomes separated.
Nose Bleed can happen due to facial trauma or even by scratching your nose with your fingernails. Posterior nose bleeds are far less common and occur deeper inside the nose. It is more common in older people or patients with high blood pressure.
The various causes of Nose Bleed are:
1.Dryness of nose:
The climate in which you live generally has a huge impact on the health of your nose. People living in very dry climates are usually more likely to experience nose bleeds because of the heat and the lack of moisture. The dry weather dries out the inside of your nose, making it more prone to cracking and bleeding.
2.Frequent Nose Picking:
This a very common cause and is mostly found in children as they are more likely to be found picking their noses. If the inner lining of your nose is scratched too much with a fingernail, or if you simply rub it too hard or pick at it aggressively, then you might run the risk of experiencing nose bleeds. Nose bleeds caused from picking are generally short-lasting and heal on their own.
3.Nose blowing:
If you blow your nose often, you are very likely to develop nose bleeds. Generally, people suffering from cold and allergies are more likely to develop nose bleeds due to blowing their nose often. People blow their nose more often during colds due to the increased production of mucus. The pressure involved can rupture sinuses and lead to nose bleeds.
4.Broken Noses:
If you have had an accident and broken your nose at some point in your life, then it is very probable that you can experience a nose bleed. Generally, broken noses involve the bridge of the nose or the septum. This being a very important part of your nose is more likely to bleed if the area has not healed properly.
5.Allergies:
Human allergies can interfere with your respiratory pathway including your nose. Allergies tend to make the nose run more which leads to the excessive blowing of the nose, thus leading to nose bleeds. Allergies also tend to make the nose very itchy which can lead to you scratching and rubbing the nose excessively which can cause it to bleed.
6.Allergy medications:
Allergy medications can also cause nose bleeds. Anti-histamines are one of the main types of anti-allergens prescribed by doctors. The main symptom of anti-allergen reaction is dryness as these drugs can dehydrate the mucous membranes of the body.
7.Sinus Infections:
Sinus infections usually caused by bacteria can cause itching and discomfort. Sinus infections rarely cause the nose to bleed directly, but the resulting symptoms can certainly lead someone to damage their nose, probably by rubbing it constantly due to the itching.
8.Foreign Bodies in the Nose:
Foreign bodies such as grains of sand, crayon pieces, a piece of tissue, or even a tiny toy could end up in your nose and lead to discomfort and nose bleed. It usually occurs in children but adults can also experience it. If you work in a dusty area then you are likely to inhale a lot of dry particulate matter which can dry out your nose and contribute to nose bleeds.
9.Drug Use:
Chronic drug users may experience nose bleeds as a result of their drug abuse. Many drug users choose to insufflate or snort, their drugs. Doing this for a prolonged period of time can dry out the nasal passageways and do serious nasal damage. As the nasal passageways deteriorate, they become more and more likely to crack and bleed.
10.Deviated Septum:
The septum is the cartilage in the nose that separates the two nostrils. In people who have an uneven or deviated septum, there can be a number of health complications such as difficulty breathing and nose bleeds.
