The winter season is here, and so is the season of cold and cough. There are either one or more people in a family suffering from this. The virus is really contagious and can affect a healthy being with a strong immune system too. It s said that there are over 200 viruses that are responsible for cold and cough, which cause sore throat, runny nose, phlegm, congestion, irritability, and fatigue.
The symptoms might worsen and can cause flu too. Cold and flu are the most common ailments suffered by all the people at least once during the coldest season. There are many over the counter medicines available to treat common cold and cough, but here we present you a very simple yet effective home remedy to get rid of cold overnight.
You will need
- 1/2 cup buckwheat honey or normal honey
- 2 tablespoons lime juice
- 1 teaspoon ginger root grated
- Cane sugar for dusting
Procedure
- In a heavy bottom pan, mix all the ingredients except cane sugar and let it boil on high flame
- Keep stirring for a few minutes, until it turns frothy and the mixture reaches the top of the pan
- Take a glass of ice-cold water, and drop one drop of the mixture to check
- If the mixture hardens, it is ready.
- Fish out the small ball, and chew it. If it’s chewy, boil it again for a few minutes.
- If it is hard and crunchy, It is done.
- Now, take it off the flame at 300 degrees using a candy thermometer.
- Let it cool down slightly, till all the froth is subsided.
- Pour small droplets of it into the molds or an oiled parchment paper.
- Wait for it to cool down on its own at room temperature.
- Once dried, you can easily demold the drops.
- For extra crunch, and to avoid them for sticking together while being stored in a jar, dust a little powdered cane sugar over them.
- Store in an airtight container and you are good to go for many weeks to come
Note:
You can use regular honey too, but buckwheat honey is preferable
Organic lime is more preferable than ordinary lime
