What is Rheumatoid Arthritis? Symptoms and Treatments

0

Rheumatoid Arthritis is not like osteoarthritis, the common type that comes  with age. Rather, rheumatoid arthritis tends to develop between the ages of 25 and 55 and afflicts more women than men. It is an auto immune disorder that is caused by the body’s immune system attacking its own tissues just as it would for a virus or bacteria. Unfortunately,    it most commonly attacks the synovium, which lines the joints.  This causes pain, inflammation, and loss of mobility that  can spread throughout your body. But it doesn’t just stop at the joints. Rheumatoid Arthritis can also affect your mouth, lungs, and eyes.

The course of this disease is also unpredictable. Some people seldom experience relief from the pain and inflammation, which progressively gets worse. Other people experience remissions for long periods of time, when the Rheumatoid Arthritis just seems to disappear. Then it comes back. Most victims of rheumatoid arthritis have intense and painful flare ups of their symptoms for a period of time. Whichever course this disease takes, however, life can be unpleasant and, at times, excruciatingly painful without treatments.

Signs and Symptoms of RA:

The symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis include:

  • Decreased mobility in the joints
  • Joints that feels warm when you touch them
  • Pain, inflammation, and swelling around the joint
  • Running a low grade fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite
  • Anemia

If left untreated, Rheumatoid Arthritis can permanently damage your cartilage, ligaments, and tendons. This can lead to joint deformity and even disability. That’s why doctors recommend an aggressive treatment regimen, which may include medications such as exercise, and possibly surgery, as soon as a diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis is made.

Treating Rheumatoid Arthritis:

If the damage to your joints is serious, your doctor may recommend surgery right away. Otherwise, your treatment plan will probably include a combination of physical therapy and medication.

Physical therapy: Exercise has been proven to be beneficial to your joints. A physical therapist will show you what kind of exercises will aid joint flexibility. He or she will also instruct you in how to relieve the stress on your joints while performing certain activities.

Ayurvedic treatment for Arthritis: With Ayurvedic treatment you can slow down the progression of the disease or may even reverse the disease.

Medication Treatment: NSAIDS, Coral Cortiosteriods, DMARDS, Antimalarials, Sulfasalazine, and D-Pencillamine.

Although not a cure, these treatment methods will help you to live with rheumatoid arthritis. If you have the symptoms of Rheumatoid Arthritis, seek medical treatment immediately.
