What is the primary cause of a sore tongue? While no definitive answer exists, there does appear to be common recurring factors that one could associate with a sore tongue in general.
These could include the following :
- Poor Dental Hygiene
- Stress
- Food Allergies
- Candidiasis
- Nutritional Deficiencies
Let’s briefly examine each of the recurring factors and see whether or not we can trace the cause for a sore on the tongue in our own individual and unique experience since each of us have our own body chemistry to deal with.
Shockingly, the toothpaste you use every day could be a possible culprit in the formation of a sore on tongue. There are some who believe that an ingredient in commercial toothpaste called sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is an underlying cause for microscopic damage to the tissues lining the inside of your mouth.
The foaming agent created by SLS, which is classified as soap, leads to dryness of the mouth setting the stage for bad breath. Additionally, the irritation caused by this ingredient is thought by some to cause an allergic reaction resulting in the production of a sore on tongue.
