What is the primary cause of a sore tongue? While no definitive answer exists, there does appear to be common recurring factors that one could associate with a sore tongue in general.

Shockingly, the toothpaste you use every day could be a possible culprit in the formation of a sore on tongue. There are some who believe that an ingredient in commercial toothpaste called sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) is an underlying cause for microscopic damage to the tissues lining the inside of your mouth.

The foaming agent created by SLS, which is classified as soap, leads to dryness of the mouth setting the stage for bad breath. Additionally, the irritation caused by this ingredient is thought by some to cause an allergic reaction resulting in the production of a sore on tongue.

Glycerin:

Apply a few drops of glycerin on the affected part of the tongue. Leave it on overnight and wash your mouth the very next morning.

Milk:

Drink one glass of fresh and cold milk 2 to 3 times a day.

Tea Bags:

Place a Chamomile tea bag (wet) on the affected area of the tongue and leave it on for a couple of minutes.

Vitamin C:

Vitamin C deficiency is one of the main causes of a sore tongue. Include Vitamin c by eating Tomato, Orange, lemon, Grapes, Strawberry, Guava, Cauliflower, Broccoli and spinach.

Vitamin B-12:

Vitamin B-12 deficiency can cause various symptoms on the tongue to prevent add Vitamin B-12 in your daily diet by having Fish, Egg, Milk, Liver, Shellfish, Meat and Fruits.

Yogurt:

Yogurt is a dairy product you can have yogurt 2 to 3 times a day by adding to your breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Baking Soda and Salt:

Take a glass of warm water adds some baking soda and salt to it. Gargle with this mixture daily in the morning. Or you can use baking soda as a powder or paste applied directly on the sore.

Papaya:

Have some papaya fruit to get rid of the sore tongue. Papaya fruit contains Vitamin A, C, B-12, B-6, Calcium, Iron and Magnesium.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera can also be used as a mouth rinse.

Grapefruit Seeds:

Extract some Grapefruit seeds combined with water and use it as a mouthwash.
