The vermiform appendix is a vestigial part in the body which is in the shape of a tube. This means that the appendix does not perform any major function in the body but, in case an infection occurs in the appendix, then it may result in a severe outcome. The appendix is located in the abdomen, attached to the lower end of the large intestine. In case an inflammation of the appendix occurs, it is called appendicitis. This problem has to be treated with an immediate effect.

It usually begins with a dull ache in the middle region of the abdomen which gradually intensifies followed by indigestion, constipation and diarrhea. It also results in nausea and loss of appetite. It occurs if mucus obstructs the cavity of the appendix. This obstruction occurs due to the excessive amount of poisonous waste material in caecum. The infection and inflammation occurs due to some germs which are present in the intestinal region.

There are certain home remedies for appendicitis which are not only easy and simple to follow but are also inexpensive and easily available at home.

Fenugreek Seeds: Fenugreek seeds help in prevention of surplus mucus to get deposited in the appendix thereby, rooting out the cause of the problem. Put one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in water and let it boil for an hour. Consume after it cools down a little bit. This tea is an extremely useful natural cure for appendicitis.

Buttermilk: Buttermilk is the most helpful in the treatment for appendicitis which is chronic in nature. It is best to consume 3-4 glasses of buttermilk in a day in order to treat the problem of appendicitis.

Whole Wheat: Whole wheat is now well recognized for its benefits for digestion and thereby steering away various disorders connected with digestion including appendicitis. Increasing the quantity of whole wheat based products in your diet can also help you avoid the problem of appendicitis. Whole wheat also helps in avoiding the problem of constipation which can aggravate appendicitis.

Green Gram: Green gram is one of the most trusted home remedies for appendicitis. Consume small quantities of the same thrice a day or slightly larger quantity (three tablespoons) twice a day.

Ginger and Garlic: Ginger and garlic in powdered or raw form is not only an effective home treatment for appendicitis but also helps in reducing the swollen appendix. It can be consumed once or twice in a day depending upon the relief it provides and severity of the problem.

Ginger and Turmeric: A mixture of ginger and turmeric is useful in curing the nausea and vomiting caused by appendicitis.

Rock Salt and Ginger Juice: A mixture of a pinch of rock salt and one table spoon of ginger juice is helpful in providing relief from the problem of vomiting which most likely sets at the occurrence of appendicitis.

Lemon Juice and Honey: A mixture of lemon juice and honey is extremely beneficial in facilitating proper digestion and also in treating indigestion. Have two to three glasses of honey and lemon juice mixed in water every day.
