Weight loss journeys vary from person to person. You might meet someone who can lose weight within a few weeks and some people will take months to lose the same amount of weight.

Your weight loss journey is based on your metabolism, age, genetics, chronic conditions, diet, lifestyle, and even on the type of exercises you do.

If you are trying to lose weight and doing the best you can; but are unable to lose the extra fat then there can be several reasons for the same.

From underlying chronic conditions to hormonal imbalances, there are many factors that will dictate your weight loss or weight gain.

Here are a few reasons why you are not losing weight:

1) You have unrealistic weight-loss expectations:

All of us have unrealistic expectations from almost everything. One of the primary reasons you cannot witness the weight loss of your body is because you have set unrealistic weight-loss expectations.

Weight loss is nothing about waving a wand of magic and boom! And you lose 12 pounds in a week. (I wish it was so easy!).

You must understand that weight loss can take time and healthy weight loss includes losing 6 pounds in a week on average. So make sure you set some realistic weight loss goals. Lose little but lose it the healthy way!

2) You are eating too many calories:

You have to cut back on calories if you are losing weight. On average you must eat 2000 calories on a daily basis to meet the daily energy requirements of your body.

But, when you are losing weight, you have cut back on calories and consume only 600-1000 calories per day.
If you are having more than 1200 calories in a day then you are more likely to NOT lose weight. So count your calories.

3) You are not having enough protein and fiber-rich foods:

When you are cutting back on calories and including only 20% of calories, the other 80% must be protein-rich. Protein will also reduce your appetite, build up muscle mass, and even burn the stubborn fat to a lot of extents.

4) You are not avoiding sugar:

Sugar does no good to your body; it does a lot more harm than your imagination. It can cause invisible weight gain and prove out to be a major setback in your weight loss journey.

Avoid sugar if you want to lose weight in a healthy way.

5) You are drinking a lot of sugar:

Sodas and drinks contain a lot of sugar, additives, and preservatives. These are very harmful to your body especially when you want a healthy body.

Some of these drinks contain 60% sugar and if you are drinking these irrespective of your diet, then you are more likely to NOT lose weight.

6) You are not lifting weight:

Lifting weights is one of the best exercises you can do to get rid of that extra fat.
You must lift weights if you want to lose weight in a healthy way.

Lifting weights will help in shredding the extra weight and build muscle mass instead.

7) You are not doing enough Cardio:

After lifting weights, another kind of exercise that will help in getting rid of stubborn weight is by doing cardio.

If you are not able to lose weight, then it is more likely that you are not doing enough cardio. Include more cardio in your routine to lose weight in an effective way.

8) Not Keeping track of what you are eating:

Keeping a track of what you are eating will help you in losing weight in a healthy way. Write down what you are eating in a day if you forget often. This will help you in keeping track of calories you are eating in a day.

9) You are Binge Eating:

One of the common reasons you gain weight or you can’t lose weight is because you are binge eating. Even if you are eating healthy or binge eating healthy snacks; you can still gain weight and can’t lose weight effectively.

Eat-in moderation, and include smaller portions of a healthy diet in your daily life.

10) You are stressed:

If you want to lose weight then you have to flush out the stress. Stress can be a major reason for abnormal weight gain. Do yoga, practice meditation to get rid of stress.

11) You don’t sleep well:

Not sleeping enough can also lead to abnormal weight gain. If you are not sleeping enough, you are more likely to NOT lose weight in a healthy way.

Have at least 8 hours of sleep in a day to lose weight in an effective way.

12) You drink a lot of alcohol:

Limit your alcohol consumption if you are trying to lose weight. If you cannot lose weight then make sure you limit your daily consumption. Alcohol can make a weight loss journey very difficult.

13) Hormonal imbalances:

Hormonal imbalances can be one of the major reasons why your diet and exercise did not work. Take a test and consult a nutritionist to make sure you are following the right diet along with exercise.

14) Chronic Conditions:

Chronic conditions can also make it difficult to lose weight in an effective way.
The chronic conditions can also stand in between your dream body and constant weight gain.

Consult a nutritionist to have a healthier and effective weight loss journey.

Apart from these, some of the other simple reasons that make it harder to lose weight are:

  • You are not having whole foods
  • You are smoking
  • You not drinking enough water
  • You are HAVING A LOT OF JUNK
  • You are starving for a longer period of time and skipping meals
  • You are only focussed on DIETING
  • You don’t know your genes, know your genetics
  • You don’t move a lot
  • You are on a medication that is making weight loss harder
