10 Quick Home Remedies to Stop Nose Bleeding

Nose bleeding is a very common condition especially amongst children’s. Where blood drips from the nose, blood vessels in the nose are very delicate and they can get rupture easily due to a variety of reasons like injury, picking nose with sharp finger nails, high humidity, and even extreme temperature.

The other causes of nose bleeds may include upper respiratory infections, like common cold, sinusitis, ear infection and throat infection. Your child may also have allergies or dry mucus membranes which can cause nose bleeds. Let’s look at some simple home remedies which can helps stop the bleeding effectively.

List of Home Remedies:

Alum Powder and Clarified Butter: Fine powder of Alum along with pure clarified butter, instilled in the form of nasal drops, will stop bleeding.

Gooseberry (Amla): Soak 20 gram of dried gooseberry in water overnight and strain in the morning. Drink this water and apply the paste of gooseberry on the forehead and around the nose after grinding them to a paste.

Red Sandalwood, Liquorices, and Saffron: Take them in equal amount. Make them into a fine powder and take 3 gm of the same internally, with a glass of milk.

Pomegranate: Make a fine powder from the dried flower of pomegranate and use it as snuff.

Figs and Jaggery: You can also eat ripe figs with jaggery or honey to check bleeding.

Cold Compress: Applying cold compresses above the nose will also helps control the bleeding.

Coriander, Adoosa leaf, Grape Fruit, Gooseberry: Make a decoction by boiling equal parts of coriander, adoosa leaf, and grape fruit. Add sugar and honey and drink half a cup, twice a day.

Banana Tree and Crystal Sugar: Make a paste of young tender leaves of banana tree and mix with 20 gm of crystal sugar in 1/4 liter of water. Take this mixture once a day regularly to control chronic bleeding from nose.

Onion: Place a piece of onion, under your nose for quick relief.

Pinch your Nostril: Sit straight and tip your head slightly forward. Pinch your nostril with your thumb and index finger. Apply firm pressure on nostril for 5-10 minutes. Breathe through your mouth while doing this.

Seek Medical Attention if:

  • The bleeding lasts for more than 15 to 30 minutes.
  • You feel weak or faint.
  • Bleeding begins by tickling down the back of your throat.

 

If re-bleeding occurs, repeat all of the above steps. If bleeding still recurs, please consult your doctor. Please keep in mind that, these are all common home remedies, and first aid measures.
